One Year Anniversary - 8/20/08

When I started taking Chantix last year I wasn't quite sure what to expect.

Would it help me quit smoking? Would there be side effects? Is it really 'too good to be true'? Will I finally kick the habit for good!?

Yes. Yes. No. Hell Yes!!!!

It's been 378 days since I last had a cigarette.
It's been 378 days since I had the urge to have a cigarette.
It's been 378 days since I became a non-smoker.

If you've thought about quiting or if you have tried unsuccessfully throughout the years, I highly suggest you look into Chantix.

Many congrats to you! I'm thrilled that you've reached this milestone. I couldn't find any of your old posts - am I looking in the wrong place? Here's to another year, a day at a time.

hantix, the medicine manufactured by Pfizer Incl. is meant for triggering off smoking cessation and as it is an FDA approved quit smoking medicine, you can administer the anti-smoking drug without any hesitation and successfully get rid of nicotine addiction. However, significant chantix tidbits available at http://www.chantixmagic.com clarify that the medicine is meant to be taken only after getting hold of a Chantix prescription from the doctor.

I have been on Chantix for a week and a half now. I quit just a couple of days ago but have to say that I feel great! It really does help with the withdrawal symptoms and so far I really have not experienced intollerable side affects. I am a small person and am only taking one pill a day. I take this in the evening after I have eaten as the one thing I have noticed is some stomach pain after taking it. That is actually getting better now too. I am not depressed, I am not having crazy dreams. It is taking me longer to fall asleep but it's worth it to quit. I have smoked since I was 15 years old and I am now 37. I tried the patch but just got addicted to it. I tried the gum but it was gross and I could not deal with no eating or drinking during the time I had it in my mouth. I tried Welbutrin and it kindof worked once but then I started smoking again. Years later I tried it for a second time but it made me nuts and I went off of it. I will tell you that my friend quit with Chantix (3 mo now) and she had to go off of it within a couple of weeks. It did make her depressed and irritable. I guess I am lucky as it is working well for me. I am usually a pretty happy person and that has not changed.
I hope this helps someone to quit. If you try chantix have someone monitor changes in your personality and goodluck!! FYI -I became suicidal on Paxil years ago(took for anxiety attacks), I just think these medications effect each person differently and it is worth the try.

i am planning to quit. i have been smoking since i was 14 and now i am 30. i can hardly imagine myself not smoking cigarettes. i have schizophrenia and i have to take other medicine. at first i was scared of chantix and i never really like taking my antipsycotics. i take them because my family wants me to be a functional part of society and i know whats good for me. the past is the reason i smoke and i want to get over it without cigarettes. my husband smokes but he smokes less than me and he usually limits himself to smoking only outside. he doesnt need chantix he needs me to stop. so since you and others are definatley supporting me i am going to take my antismoking anti psycotic and antidepressant all at the same time for the next 3 weeks straight. the only reason i dont like medicine is because it seems to be replacing nature. i must quit next monday feb 2 2009 i will start by slowing down for the next week. while taking the chantix.
if i can find this page i ll be back to tell you if i quit ever. i have never stopped in 16 years for more than 3 days

I tried using chantix myself, now trying it again and still having the same painfull side effects, i just have to decide if they are worth going through to quit smoking. You see, when i started taking chantix the first time, things were great, i didnt want a cigarette at all after two days of taking it and not to mention they tasted terrible, but later when i went to the higher dosage i started getting extremely nauseous, almost like i was pregnant again. so naturally you think, omg im pg, took several tests and i wasnt, so i contacted my dr and advd to him that im getting extremely nauseous from this rx. he said for me to contact the montana quit smoking line. so i did, but they said to contact my dr. I was NOT about to play phone tag with both of them and so i came off the chanitx and ended up smoking again a week later.

Now, i have started the chantix again, still feeling extreme nausea, but wondering if it is worth it to feel that, since i know my dr is not going to do anything for me. I'd really really really like to quit, and i know the chantix works, but the nausea is sooooo bad!!!!

What would anyone else do in this situation?
